Purpose and focus of the project

This report is focused on my personal progress and development as a Rubik’s Cube solver by analyzing the times that I have achieved over the years for both 3x3x3 and 2x2x2 cubes in official World Cube Association competitions. My data only includes competitions in which I have competed in both 3x3 and 2x2, in order to fairly compare my progress in both events. Only completed solves are included in the data, excluding DNFs. My first competition occurred in 2017. Over the years, I have gone to a total of 18 competitions, including being qualified for a few national championships for the US, Canada, and North America. Back in 2017, the average time that it took me to solve a 3x3 Rubik’s Cube was between 30 and 40 seconds, and it took me between 10 to 20 seconds to solve a 2x2 cube. Nowadays, it takes me around 15 seconds to solve a 3x3, and under 5 seconds to solve a 2x2. This report will be analyzing my progress over the years.

Topic question

What did I improve in order to make my times decrease over the years?

Sub questions

- What is the relationship between which solving methods I used over the years and my results?

- What is the relationship between adaptations or changes that I made to my solving methods and my results?

- What is the relationship between my turning style over time and my results?

- What is the correlation between my times in both events?

- What are the outliers in my data and how did they come to be?

Hypothesis

My times for solving cubes decreased drastically due to my learning of more advanced solving methods. They continued improving after I adapted the methods to my turning style and made changes to them that were helpful to me.
